So it has been a while since my last post for two reasons. One my hosting company had a little issue with apache which managed to knock my site out for a bit, and two work has been really busy this week and so I haven’t had time to work on this which is essentially just a hobby for me. I am hoping to get back on track this week, there is also no chance of me beating last months adsense total due to this out time which is a shame I tend to put a lot more effort in next month.
In order to further gain motivation I’m off to a boat show to look at the fabulously extravagant boats which I could buy once I make it as a money making mogul!
Making MoneySo far I have concentrated on mainly talking about ways I make money online using adsense. However I also “rent” my self out as a php developer and web page designer. This month for instance I am taking home around £400 extra for doing simple coding and web pages for people. I also try and attach some kind of maintenance contract into each page I do at around £40 per month. This doesn’t sound like a lot but it soon adds up. My goal is 10 of these contracts per month coming in which will be a very nice boost to my annual salary.
The point of this post is just to tell people that you can make very good money doing very simple things with little effort. It also looks great on your portfolio that you work for and continue to maintain a number of various web sites.
Making MoneyUnfortunately this title isn’t referring to a sharp increase in the money I’m making online. Nor is it offering a great tip out to any one who happens to stumble upon this about how to make money. Friday I went back home to help my parents with a building project. This involved carrying 750 block slabs from one spot to another then carefully laying them in. This was ridiculously hard work and made me appreicate my job even more. It also made me realize I need to try much harder at making money online if I want to avoid jobs I hate for the rest of my life.
Making MoneyLogging on to webmaster tools this morning I find that they have had a slight theme change. All the page functions seem to be the same but I guess the navigation is slightly better than it was before.
A new set of pages which is particularly useful to bloggers such as my self is the ability to see how many subscribers you have to your feeds using tools like google ireader and orkut. I am sure a lot of bloggers will love to be able to show off using these new statistics.
Unfortunately for me it appears no one is subscribed yet. Sad but early day’s so far.
Internet Search Engine OptimisationI just couldn’t stand it any longer. That last theme was just horrible, it looked tacky and unprofessional and wasnt portraying the image that I wanted from this blog. This theme is much better it looks slick and tidy. Yes I have got rid of a few of the adsense adds but before I had lots of impressions and not one click. Im completley changing tact now placing noticble deliberate adds on the page rather that trying to blend them in.
I will keep working on my adsense placement until I get the goals I want to. When my traffic builds up more to this blog I shall start trying to make money using different goals and methods. After all the big boys like John Chow make a pittance from adsense compared to the other advertising streams on their site.
I will concentrate on working on my own these when I feel I have learnt enough to make a theme which fits all my needs which I will then offer to all my readers. This theme is a better representation of what I wanted the blog to portray. Now lets see if I can make some money from it.
Making MoneyFor any one who like me was getting increasingly annoyed with the time delay of AWstats I was pointed to a blog article which tells you how to manually upload the stats when you wish. Fantastic!
1.) Login to your cPanel
2.) Go to File Manager
3.) Go to tmp>awstats
4.) Find youdomainname.ext.conf & click on it.
5.) Click on edit & find
“Allow Update of Stats from Browser”
6.) Set it to “1″
7.) Save the file.
Stats when you want them, can’t get better than that.
InternetI am offering free reviews of other peoples blogs on this website for a limited time only. I figure this is a good way to get people to ready my site and also add content. So if you want me to review your website and blog make sure its vaguely related to money making leave a comment in this post and I will review it.

Making MoneyIt seems that in order to get onto digg’s front page the easiest way is to create a top list of some description. I have had an idea that with a little research at the weekend I should be able to implement. The problem is with “digg” is you need the first few people to all read your story and all digg it. As mentioned in so many other places people on digg are normally looking for a five minute entertainment fix whilst bored at work therefore grabbing peoples attention is difficult.
Heres what I plan to do.
A top 10 list of something random that I have not seen before.
A catchy headline which will draw people into reading the article.
I will place the page on the wiki section of this site, I want any incoming links and traffic to this site as thats where I make the most money at the moment.
I hope to have this done by the weekend and will report on my progress then. I am interested to know when the best time to submit a digg story is. Any opinions or comments will be welcome.
Making MoneyWell today I was looking at a forum and so many people were concerned with page rank. Countless number of threads on how to get the best page rank, when the next update was coming. All absolutely pointless if you ask me. I was however pointed to the fact that page rank did enable you to sell text link adds on your site for a higher cost dependent on rank. Again I am a little confused why people bother so much tho. I believe you should concentrate primarily on building up traffic, then the advertisers will come to you and you can name your price rather. Forget page rank, spend more time concentrating on building content and page rank will come naturally as google intended it to.
Making MoneyThe more I look at this theme the more I hate it. The adsense adds are too in your face and I worry that people looking at this blog will be put off far too quickly by the adverts rather than to read the content that I am producing. If I want people to come to this site and continue to return I need a theme that people find visually appealing and not what is most likely to make money through adds. The goal of this new blog has got to be to get an audience that wants to read what I have to say and therefore come back again. Instead I fear I wont be getting an audience at all due to them putting off by the blatant adsense adverts.
